How to develop gratitude in your life

GratitudeHappy New year to all my readers,I hope you are all well and ready to start the year with an attitude of gratitude.We have many things to be thankful for. We are alive and well. If your reading this your probably not starving, you have clothes on your back and you have somewhere to live.

Many of us find ourselves reacting to the hustles and bustles of life. life is hard is what we tell ourselves. life is difficult, most times because of what we tell ourselves. We allow these negative thoughts and feelings to take us over and paralyze us. we start reacting to every negative thing out there and we become negative.

You have to have an attitude of gratitude when you are in this state, your mind becomes positive.

How gratitude affects mindset

Do you notice that when we are in a negative state of mind we tend to look for something negative to feed that mentality? We start recognizing all the bad things in our lives and all the good things take a back seat.

This is because that’s how your reticular activating system works. If you are negative your brain seeks out negative things to justify why you are negative. Let’s use an example; if you think your life sucks,your mind goes through the database of negative things that ever happened to you and begins to pull out the negative files to validate your claims.

It starts giving you reasons like your life sucks because you don’t have a car. You don’t have a lot of money or people hate you because of what a handful of negative people have said to you.

Your mind is powerful. It can delude even itself. If you tell yourself that you are depressed it looks for all the reasons why you should be depressed. This is one of the reasons why if you are in a negative state you should get away from negative people and stop consuming negative media.

It’s like fueling a fire that is self-sustaining because it is already looking for fuel for itself. A positive outlook changes everything about how you see life and your brain works to make your life positive. A positive mindset lets you seek out other things that are positive.

Have an attitude of gratitude

Instead of saying “my life sucks”, look at all the blessings you have in your life. You can even think about the negative as being a blessing in disguise. Many of us are unable to recognize that some things are gifts but we just don’t see them that way. A person who goes through hardship and poverty  and who has an attitude of gratitude often finds that those were a blessing. They acted as heat tempering the steel of his soul.

Going through hardship and poverty allows him to appreciate life more and those experiences gave him the gifts of determination and tenacity to pull himself out of his situation.

Many of us want success to fall into our laps. That is the definition of failure. It’s unfulfilling. It’s about the journey, let me give you a little unorthodox example when I was younger I use to love playing video games and sometimes I would get to a level where I was just stuck I didn’t know how to get to the next level and so I looked up the cheat codes. I found all the codes that would let me get ahead in the game without working for it . after a while the game became boring. there was just no challenge no feeling of accomplishment.

Many of us are looking for the cheat code to life.We Look for shortcuts and avenues to put ourselves forward but in the end, we are not fulfilled. Fulfillment happens through doing the hard actions it’s a blessing in disguise.

Let’s use the lottery for another example. I have known people who got a lot of money just handed to them but they’re not fulfilled. The lack of fulfillment caused them to seek out material things to try to fill the gap. This often leads to disappointment because material things do not fill the gap.

Fulfillment comes from going through the process of acquiring the money. Instead of having it handed to you. Don’t you feel a sense of accomplishment when you did something you were proud of? maybe it’s working on a project where you didn’t cut corners and actually put in the work. It gives you piece of mind.

Adversity builds gratitude

Going through adversities in life allows us to be grateful. When we overcome an adversity we should become more thankful for it! Get into the mentality that life doesn’t happen to you ,it happens for you.

Don’t be down on yourself and beat yourself up because of you believe you’re not where you should be. Whenever you feel this way I want you to do this exercise; go on the Internet and search for the top five successful people that come to your mind.

 Read their biography. I guarantee you will find at least one if not all who were going through what you are going through. In some cases worse situations than where you are at now. So hold on success will come just keep working. right now you are preparing for it.
