10 Easy tips & home remedies to fight the common cold

common-coldIf you live on earth and you’ve never had the cold I don’t know what to say to you except you’re an alien. For all my other sniffle Bros let’s talk about some great tips  and home remedies that will relieve you of the uncomfortable feeling that comes with catching a cold.

Honey and lime


This combo has been used to relieve the scratchy uncomfortable feeling in your throat when you catch a cold . It has also been shown to be just about effective as over the counter drugs. How it works is that you can use warm water add a little honey and lime and you are good to go. Both lime and honey contain antioxidants which help your body to fight off viruses.

Ginger Tea


Another great remedy for colds is good old ginger tea. Sick people should know this one well. Ginger contains gingerol and is a natural antiviral and anti-inflammatory. Have you ever noticed how much better you feel after drinking ginger tea? It tends to soothe the throat and clear the nasal canal.

You can also mix some honey  and lime with the ginger. Together these  antioxidant packed ingredients should help you get over that pesky flu or cold In no time.

Garlic Tea


Another one of the best natural remedies for relieving cold symptoms is garlic tea. Garlic tea? You might ask…. Ugh is the first word that comes to mind and yes it is an acquired taste but it is definitely worth it.

Garlic’s natural antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties helps your body to fight off viruses. You can also add lemon slices and honey to your garlic tea to boost its health benefits.

Another way to consume the garlic would be to pop a peg into your mouth and chew away. Warning though it is not recommended the squeamish or vampires ;).

Apple cider vinegar


This other ingredient has said to fight cancer and pretty much having almost every health benefit known to man. While is good to be optimistic lets not get overboard. Because although Apple cider vinegar has a lot of health benefits it is not the cure for aids or anything.

One major benefit of consuming apple cider vinegar is to alkalize the  body. Viruses thrive in an acidic body. Improving the alkalinity of your body helps in fighting off these viruses. because it changes the environment in which the virus wishes to thrive. Prepare this remedy by diluting in warm water first before drinking.



Another remedy for the common cold  you will hear from doctors is to drink lots of fluids. Fluids such as water help to flush out the body so you get better faster. Drink fluids such as orange juice to help boost the body’s immune system. This helps your white blood cells fight off the virus. When you have a flu or cold get some white rum and rub on ur face and body especially if you have a fever. I honestly don’t know what this does but it sure makes you feel better afterwards.

Exercise & Sunshine

You may feel like lying in bed all day but resist the temptation. Get a little exercise first. What this does is help you to sweat out the toxins in your body. After this you can shower and then go to bed. You will probably have some of the best sleep you’ve had in a while.

Staying in bed under the sheets typical makes you feel worse than ever. You feel stuffy and sick. Getting some sun and exercise will do you a lot of good. Remember to stay hydrated that is extremely important.

Take Vitamins


Another little tip to fight the common cold is take vitamins. Although natural vitamins are more desirable. Vitamins in the tablet form can help in the fight against the cold virus.

Try to avoid getting wet or going into the rain (although that should be obvious I’m just saying). When you get wet it lowers your bodies defenses making it harder for your body to fight off the virus. Try to stay warm.

Eat fruits and vegetables

More long term treatments are eating lots of fruits and vegetables vegetables. They contain nutrients such as vitamins and minerals that help you fight off the flu. They may even prevent you from getting it in the first place.

Avoid sick people


Avoid being around sick people if you are sick. Unless of course it’s your special someone (we all know we can’t avoid that). Get as much fresh air as possible. More oxygen to your blood cells means a  healthier you.

Finally the most important thing to do to get rid of the common cold is to rest. Rest allows your body to fight off the flu virus in a more efficient way. This is because when you are resting, the body can focus all it’s resources on battling the virus. When you are active your body has to focus an many other functions.
Think about like running many programs on your computer. Your computer will be more effective if you are focusing on one task. Rather than have 50 different browsers open along with a few games and movies in the background.

Although you should rest don’t over do it. Get some sunshine in the day.And follow the previous tip of getting some exercise by going for a walk or run. The more oxygen you get and better the quality of the oxygen. The faster you will get better. The more quality oxygen you get the better the quality of blood flowing through your body.
